BMW 135i/335i/535i PROcede
Frequantly Asked Questions
GENERAL
Q: Is the PROcede a chip?
A:
Not quite. It's a separate computer box about 1/4 the size of the
factory ECU. It sits just next to the factory ECU in an empty
"shelf". Very convenient
Q: If the dealer reprograms my ECU, will the PROcede still
function the same?
A: Yes, the ECU can be reprogrammed independently of the
PROcede. The two are fully discrete from each other. Likewise, you
program the PROcede without programming the ECU.
Q: What’s involved with installing the PROcede?
A: The PROcede requires no cutting, splicing, or soldering of
any of the factory components and wires. We have taken the liberty
of filming an installation video that can be found here:
www.vishnutuning.com/BMW_support.htm
Q: What kind of gas mileage should I expect with the PROcede?
A: You can expect to see a 1-2 MPG improvement over stock
under cruising conditions (ie highway driving). Hard driving will
yield about 2-3 MPG under stock.
Q: The PROcede is a type of “piggy-back,” what’s that?
A: Piggy-back computers, by definition, work in conjunction
with the factory ECU, not against of it. The PROcede essentially
intercepts and recalibrates all the sensors signals to induce a
higher level of performance without the ECU being the wiser.
Q: Will the PROcede work on EURO Spec BMWs?
A: Yes!
Q: Will future updates and maps be free?
A: Yes, maps and updates are always free with the purchase of
a PROcede.
Q:
What are these “maps”?
A: Maps are a given number of offsets loaded into the PROcede
and tells it what to do and what the car to do.
Q: How do I update the map from my computer?
A: The PROcede works with a serial port cable. One can buy a
serial cable to USB cable to link to more updated computers that
don’t have serial ports. Download the updating software available on
our website:

Q: Will PROcede work with steptronic and paddle shifted
models?
A: Yes
Q: Will PROcede work with AWD xi models?
A: Yes
Q: Will PROcede work with convertible models?
A: Yes

PERFORMANCE
Q: Does the PROcede have dynamic power mapping?
A: All modern cars have what you may call "dynamic mapping,"
in the sense that they all search for targets, and make changes to
the map if these targets are not met. Now, altering those targets
without being over aggressive is the tricky part (the part that
hasn't been figured out by Audi tuners). So, this brings us to your
question about the PROcede being static. The base PROcede is static.
Using 3 dimensional maps, it outputs a given value per a given X and
Y value. (Load or variable being Y, and RPM being X) With that said,
the PROcede is working in conjunction with your factory ECU which is
not static (this is the brilliance of an interceptor system). The
factory ECU still has all of its ability to step in and make changes
when it sees fit. So, the PROcede is static, but it does not work in
the static manner that a standalone does.
Q: What are the practical HP gains without the Vishnu
Exhaust? I'm not that interested in PEAK HP, more middle of the
range HP.
A: On 93 octane, we've seen gains of 70-80 whp and 70-80 lbft
of torque with no modifications other than the PROcede.
Q: I am very interested on installing a BOV (Blow-off Valve),
is that going to be a problem?
A: It is best for one to resist the temptation of installing
an aftermarket BOV as our cars were not designed to release excess
boost pressure into the atmosphere. Doing so will effect the
PROcede’s tuning and cause the car to run poorly. The car was
designed to recirculate that excess air back into the intake system.
Bleeding off the air that was accounted for by the MAF sensor will
confuse everything.

WARRANTY/SAFETY
Q: What kind
of warranty comes with the PROcede?
A: Vishnu Performance warrants its products to be free from
defects due to materials and/or workmanship for a period of 12
months from the date of purchase.
Q: If the dealership doesn't detect the PROcede, will the ECU
somehow detect it?
A: Once the PROcede is removed, there will be no ECU traces left behind provided that the proper maps have been loaded and care has been taken not to throw any ECU faults.
Q:
What kind of wear and tear am I to expect with the PROcede?
A:
Under normal driving conditions and by following the regular
scheduled maintenance, PROcede users can expect to maintain the same
overall reliability to a stock car. Our components have even been
race tested in grueling endurance races with no ill effect.
Q: How long will Vishnu provide support for the product?
A: We still support products from 1999 (the first year of our
company). So this should not be a concern.
Q: Will constant installing and uninstalling of the PROcede
cause problems, etc?
A: No, as long as it is safely and completely removed. Take
your time when installing and uninstalling the PROcede!
