Just one of
many pictures of us arriving at the track ready to do
battle. This time we’re in Pueblo, CO, which reminds me of
Little House on the Prairie. Again, we’re at considerable
altitude which hinders boost response markedly.
Fortunately, the weather isn’t as oppressively hot as it was
yesterday at Las Vegas.

Our fellow
competitors do their own preparations as well. Rumor has it
that Blake Fuller’s STi may not make this event due to some
sort of “oil drain line” problem they are having with their
“stock” turbocharger
J
If that is the case, we’ll climb to the top of our class
before even filling up with gas. Waitasec…. He showed up.
Damn. Back to racing…

Finally
unpacked and ready to roll! Notice the crap to the right of
the picture? You’re only seeing a teeny tiny portion of
it. The entire mountain of junk displaces enough space to
require two or three camera shots. You see, Paul and I took
a last-minute WalMart shopping spree back in South Bend,
just before beginning our One Lap adventure. Having
participated in several One Laps before, Paul decided to
stock ourselves with every possible trinket and tidbit he
has ever used, or even thought about using, during his One
Lap racing history. This means we carried with us tiny
lights designed to be worn around heads, a pup tent,
sleeping bags, sun umbrellas, an air compressor, a battery
charger and a host of other devices we never even unwrapped,
let alone used. My Mastercard has yet to recover.

Brock Yates
and Paul are entertained by Dave Murry’s chimpanzee
impressions. Paul gives him an 7.5 out of 10. Brock tells
him that he needs to make funnier noises and fling poo.

Paul and
Dave Murry smack talk each once again. Again, we come in 4th
place overall, just barely falling short of the 3rd
place GT3. First in class, as usual. Remember when we
dominated at Heartland Park, placing 1st overall
on the roadcourse and at the drag strip? Yeah… so do we.
So much, in fact, that we like to remind ourselves and
others.. har har.

How cool is
that? A GT40 replica. It’s fast too!!

Cobb
Tuning’s entry to One Lap is getting ready for their
session.

But the
broken Koni shocks need attending to first.

Dyno-Comps
entry is looking good and doing well in the Mid-Priced Sedan
class.

More folks
seeking shelter.

That looks
comfortable, doesn’t it?

Hide from
the sun!!

Snore.

Snore.

Chillin’ like a couple of pimps.

Why is
Andrew Firestone, aka “The Bachelor”, so happy? Well, for
starters, he hasn’t crashed yet… har har!

The Dodge/PVO
boys are hard at work. Don’t let those smiles fool you.
They are worried about our EVO that is nipping at their
heels

Another
Viper in the running. Although I don’t remember them being
competition for us.

A
factory-backed Caddy CTS-V. We expected it to do well
considering the amount of technology and motor they were
packing. But it blew up, necessitating a long and arduous
trip to a dealership for some sort of motor or car swap.
Don’t ask, ‘cuz I don’t know.

Okay, so
we’re a bit out of order here. The following pictures were
taken between sessions where both Paul and I had time to
unwind.

Paul’s
tapping away at his little internet phone. Now you guys
know how we managed to keep everyone updated from the road.

It never
hurts to be prepared. But in case, we needed a little more
boost, we brought along a GT35R and a new manifold.
Thankfully, we never found the need to install any of them.
Hell, I don’t even thing we changed the air filter during
the entire race.

Here’s the
start to the second session. What a wasteland, huh? The
results? Take a guess… yep, 4th place overall
and first in class. Well, at least we are narrowing the
gap between us and class leader Fuller in his STi.
According to some astute number crunching, it is possible
for us to finish 1st in Class (something we
didn’t think was possible after the Day One skidpad debacle)
if we continue our Class winning streak until the end of the
entire series. No pressure? Yeah, right.
