Firmware
Updating NOTE:
If you already have a wire in pin 9 of the black connector, Steps one through
three, and five can be skipped. I.
Locate the purple wire on the grey connector. It will be the only purple
wire, pin 10 on the grey harness. Here is the wire, it is the third one in from
the left hand side. It may have a red stripe or white strip on it as well... II.
Remove the orange connector from the bottom of the grey harness. Simply
pull straight out with a set of pliers. III.
Slightly push back the tab on the inside of the connector while gently
pulling out the wire. The wire will slide right out. IV.
Cut the purple wire. V.
Remove orange piece from the black connector, and push the wire into pin
9 on the black connector. Once the wire is in, reinsert both orange connectors. VI.
With the wire in place, plug the connectors back into the XEDE. VII.
With the car in the on position, open Xmap2, or Xmap3 (Depending
on the current firmware in your xede.) and press F8 (Download and show maps).
Save this map to your computer. VIII.
Close the table labeled knock, and
arrange the Fuel (Maf), Timing (CAS) and Boost (unknown) tables so that all of
the numbers in each table can be seen. Take a screen shot of this, by pressing
“ALT” and “Print Screen.” If your screen is exceptionally small, you may
need to take two screen shots in order to capture all of the data. In order save
the screen shot, open “Paint” or an equivalent program, and press “CTRL”
and “V,” to paste the shot onto the canvas. Save this picture to your desk
top. If you have a race gas map, connect the map switch wires and repeat the
process. The screen shot should look like this:
IX.
At this point, you may want to uninstall all of the previously installed
X-maps on your computer. Do this by going to your computer’s “control
panel” then selecting add or remove programs, then highlighting the Xmap
software, and removing the program from your computer.
X.
Open the file on your desktop called Xmap 3_0_2_9 installer. Run this
program. This will place the newest Xmap on your computer. XI.
Open the folder called Xmap 3_2 user version upgrade. Leave this folder
open. XII.
Go to Start>mycomputer>Cdrive>Programfiles>Xede>Xmap3. XIII.
Drag all of the contents of the Xmap 3_2 user version upgrade into the
Xmap3 program folder. It will ask to replace certain files, say yes. XIV.
Your new Xmap software is now fully functional. Double click on the 3_2
user version upgrade to start Xmap. Keep this program running. XV.
Strip back a bit of the insulation on the red power wire, as well
as the insulation on the wiring coming out of pin 9 on the black connector.
XVI.
Wrap the wire coming out of pin 9 on the black connector around
the red wire. This will put the xede into boot mode.
XVII.
Turn the car to the on position. Take note that the light on the
xede is not on. XVIII.
With the car’s ignition in the on position, and the xede
connected to your computer, go to “Setup” and select “Firmware.” Browse
your computer to locate the appropriate SMART firmware. (It will be on your
desktop along with the other files downloaded from the secret folder on our
website.)
XIX.
Once the appropriate firmware is selected, click “update
firmware.” It will ask if you are sure. Click “Yes.” XX.
After clicking “Yes” immediately turn the car off, and then
immediately start the car. Xmap should then go through a process of “erase,”
“program,” Ect. followed by the verification. XXI.
After it has verified, turn the car off, and unwrap the firmware
updating wire from the red power wire. XXII.
Restart the car, and take note that the light on the xede goes to
solid green. However, do not try to drive the car in this state, as there will
not be a map loaded into the xede. XXIII.
Now open one of the SMART templates. Keep in mind that If using a
launch control map, your 2nd map cannot be SMART. The xede has a 12
table limitation. Launch control maps use 7 tables, and SMART maps without
launch control use 6. Opened it should look like this:
XXIV.
Now with proper smart template open,
open the screen shot, which was saved earlier. One by one began filling in the
tables with the numbers seen in your screen shot. When you have finished filling
in the Boost, Fuel, and Timing tables, recheck your work, to ensure that no
incorrect data has been placed in any cells. Save this map. XXV. With the key in the on position, and the computer connected, upload this new map to your xede. This can be achieved by pressing “CTRL U” and then burn the map by pressing “CTRL B.”
